About Our beef

Missouri Grass Fed Beef

Open tab

Missouri is one of the top producing cattle states in the US.

Raised on the lush, fertile pastures of Missouri, our cattle graze freely, ensuring they are healthier and stress-free. This natural diet not only enhances the flavor but also packs the beef with higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants. Our commitment to sustainable and ethical farming practices ensures that every bite of our grass-fed beef is not only delicious but also responsibly sourced.

What is Regenerative Farming?

Open tab

Regenerative farming is an innovative agricultural approach focused on restoring and enhancing the health of our ecosystems. This method emphasizes soil health, biodiversity, and water management by utilizing practices such as crop rotation, cover cropping, no-till farming, and holistic grazing. By prioritizing the regeneration of natural resources, regenerative farming aims to create sustainable and resilient food systems that benefit both the environment and the community.

Organic Beef vs Regenerative Beef

Open tab

Organic Beef is typically raised with organic farming practices, which focus on avoiding synthetic chemicals and GMOs, and using natural methods to maintain the land. However, some organic practices, like frequent tilling, can have negative effects on the soil & local ecosystem, like soil degradation and erosion.

Regenerative Beef is raised with regenerative farming practices, which go a step further by not only avoiding harmful chemicals but also actively improving soil health by increasing biodiversity. This includes planting native plant species and rotating the feeding cattle to ensure regrowth, eliminating the need for tilling. These methods also help prevent soil degradation and erosion.

Local Meat

Open tab

Our cattle are raised in Owensville, MO—less than 65 miles from St. Louis—on our 1,000-acre family farm. We also partner with a local, family-owned butcher to process all of our meat. When you buy Horstmann Beef, you can rest assured it was raised and butchered within a few hours of your home.

Our Packaging

Open tab

Because we believe in providing the best & freshest beef possible, we use a local butcher located within 30 miles of the farm. All of our cattle are butchered and processed at a local shop, which is why we are limited on what can be added to the label/packaging. To us, providing high-quality beef is more important than a pretty label!
